Poppa Jacob

Doesn’t my hubby look jovial with his beard? It's 7:30pm, dinner is over and Jacob is back to work. To bad he can't make overtime for the hours spent chugging away here at home. However, I honestly don't think there is much he would rather be doing. The puzzle solver in him can't leave it alone. I suppose this is time better spent than if he were playing video games. Note the Apple sticker on his IBM laptop. You've got to love that super geeky ironic humor!

Well, while Jacob is busy working, I am absorbed with pondering the important questions in life... like do you really need to use special baby detergent? I'd love to hear from all you parent's out there. Here's some thoughts from other moms and dads. I suppose you're better safe than sorry, I wouldn't want to give Sonny a rash. But, couldn't you just buy detergent without scents and dyes in it and be as well off? I hate to buy in to something just because the marketing behind it is aimed to guilt parents into buying their crap. "You're a bad Mommy for washing baby's clothes with all those chemicals!" Let's see what the experts have to say! Last but not least, if you feel like boosting the flame retardant properties of baby's clothes while being eco-friendly, check this out! No guilt there! ;-) Actually, I am only posting this link because it is based on a Clemson University Study and I want to make my little sister, Kate (a Clemson Alum) proud! I recycle which is about as eco-friendly as I can muster, and frankly I am pretty skeptical of flame retardant claims. Probably something else I should research. Anyway, how will I wash Jr.'s clothes? I guess the jury is still out. I haven't actually priced any of this stuff... so I'll have keep you posted on this very important issue.

Here we go. Jacob has just joined me in the living room so we can spend some quality time together! ;-) Seriously though, I am very glad he loves his work so much. And I have to admit, I ENJOY our quite evenings together. Some of our most relaxing nights have been passed with my nose in a book and his thumbs glued to a video controller. It's nice to be contented simply sharing our space. We're going to make comfortable old farts together. We'll be out to breakfast at our favorite dinner; I'll be skimming the headlines and he'll be checking out the real estate classifieds. Well, I think it's time for a cup of hot chocolate. The baby needs a sugar fix!

Wait. All of this time you lived next door to me and now that you have moved I find out he has hair. Wowzer! Somhow he looks more innocent, and yes, I do realize that's an oxymoron, I know.

I'm so glad that things are working out for you. Gosh, you don't have all that much longer to go now.

As far as the detergent, I used Dreft, but that was more because I just didn't want to take any changes. If you used something without the scents or dye, I think you would be fine.

All-Free and Clear is pretty good for no dyes and allergy free...but i dont' know any thing about babies. You can buy it in Sam's in the bulk jug so it might be worth it. I think Jacob looks just like dad did with a beard. It is kinda creepy.

Thanks Zach, I've been trying hard not to make the Dad/Jacob correlation! I'll never be able to smooch my husband if I start thinking he looks just like Dad!

They have off and more inexpensive brands of baby detergent like All and Purex. They cost $4-5 for a small bottle but compared to $10 for the same size of Dreft it's a steal. I use the All Free & Clear for Chloe now but I DO use the special stuff for Jack and also with Clo when she was a nugget. Besides the fact that I'd rather be safe than sorry, it has a very special, comforting baby smell. Sometimes it's worth a small splurge.

I actually liked using Dreft. I used it for all three kids up until they were past the breast milk only age. After that I had to start using industrial stuff to get the stains out (like poo and barf and stuff, the uber yuck) but otherwise, I enjoyed the baby smell...Dreft was the best. When I miss my babies, I still buy it just to remind me of the little ones I used to have...
